Relationship and sex education

Relationship, Health and Sex education (RHSE)

As children grow up in an increasingly complex world, influenced by social media, the media, peers and families, the need for high quality, supportive, accurate, unbiased and factual information to guide children through their journey to adulthood is essential. Parents' and carers' role is paramount in this, but school also plays an important part in helping children understand these complexities.

Relationships and Health Education became statutory in primary schools from September 2020. Greenhill integrated these changes into our already well-developed PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economic education) curriculum. We consulted parents regarding these changes in June 2020.

Aspects of Sex education are also included within this new statutory framework and the science national curriculum. At Greenhill this is taught in Years 2, 4 & 6. You will get information regarding this programme from your childs class teacher before this is covered.

You can find details of how we implement and teach these requirments in our RHSE policy and PSHE curriculum plans below.
